A matchup only the martial arts gods could concoct, but it's a matchup that may not be as far off as fans may think. If Conor or GSP do ever return, it will be for a low risk, high reward fight that wouldn't tarnish either of their legacies... and with a win would bring immense wealth and accolades.
I believe that GSP is one of the more small welterweights although he is arguably the greatest of all time. In terms of height, Conor should only be a couple of inches shorter with GSP most likely being the much stronger man. The striking will surely tilt in Conor's favor...
...but GSP is no pushover on the feet. The wrestling and durability of GSP that was shown all through his illustrious career will have to be on full display against such a mentally powerful fighter such as McGregor. The clash of styles will make for a very interesting first round.
St. Pierre is a much older man in terms of fight years, and Conor, although a veteran and multi division champion has never faced a true battle in the Octagon except against Nate Diaz.... and that is no comparison to the countless hours spend in champion rounds for GSP.
It will be interesting to see if this fight ever does get made, because in this era, it is not so much a mismatch as it is a super fight. Prime GSP would surely dismantle Conor as he has taken bigger shots, and controlled bigger men... but Conor is also no normal man.
It will be a mighty left hand vs. the most well rounded and solidified, unified, and former undisputed champion and arguable number one pound for pound fighter in the world. This is such an interesting matchup, and it would surely be the biggest pay per view the UFC could ever make!
