The Cleveland Cavs finally put an end to their loss streak in dramatic fashion against the Orlando Magic. Isaiah Thomas walks off of the court as the hero and the fans in Cleveland can finally sleep well with some hope for the rest of the season after a rough couple weeks.
After 4 straight losses, the Cavs EXPLODED for a 36-20 first quarter lead. They came out with high energy and had everything working on both ends of the court. Lebron James gave an inspired pregame speech and the crowd at the Quicken Loans Arena was in much need for this performance. The crowd was rocking and the Cavs continued to build on their lead in the second quarter. They found themselves up by 20 points at the break.
But then the wheels started to fall off of the wagon. The 3rd quarter was pathetic for the Cavs. They played no defense and looked uninspired as they only scored 17 points while giving up 33 to the Magic. The 20 point halftime lead was basically erased and all hell was breaking lose. The Orlando Magic were led by a balanced attack of 6 players in double figures with Payton leading the team in scoring at 19 points.
The Cavs and Magic battled back in fourth all the way down to the final seconds. Magic guard Shelvin Mack hit a jumper in the lane to take a 103-12 lead with only 32 seconds left in the game. The Cavs called a timeout and drew up a play that would get Kevin Love the ball inside the paint but he missed a dunk. The 5’9 Isaiah Thomas would get the offensive rebound and get fouled on a shot that would send him to the free throw line with 11 seconds left. Thomas would knock down both shots and give the Cavs the 104-103 lead.
The Magic got one last shot off at the buzzer by Elfrid Payton but he missed a layup that would have given them the win. The Cavs ran off the court in celebration and a sigh of relief was felt across the arena. Isaiah Thomas not only won the game, but also led the team in scoring with 21 points. Lebron added 16 and Kevin Love had 12. The Cavs are off until Saturday when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Magic are back in action on Sunday at the Boston Celtics.
