There was horrible news today out of the Cleveland Cavaliers camp. Kevin Love is officially ruled out for game 7 against the Boston Celtics on Sunday night. Love collided with Jayson Tatum of the Celtics as they banged heads in the first quarter of their match-up on Friday night. Tatum would immediately reach for his head and looked as if he was in pain, but would play the rest of the game. Love, on the other hand, would hit the floor and was visibly hurt. He went through the concussion protocol and had to sit out the remainder of the game.
It seems like a century ago when the Cavs traded first round draft pick, Andrew Wiggins, for Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Love had played 6 seasons in Minnesota and was a double-double machine. He averaged 26.1 points per game and 12.5 rebounds in 2013 before joining the Cavs.
It was all smiles when he put on that Cavalier uniform and he was a HUGE part in Lebron James coming home. Love was meant to be Robin to Lebron’s Batman. Although he has had a nice 4 year run playing second fiddle to Lebron, it just hasn’t materialized as they had hoped. Love has never averaged 20 points per game as a Cav, and has only averaged double digits in rebounds once.
But none the less, Kevin Love is still an extremely important part of the Cleveland Cavs and his health is an enormous concern. The chances of Lebron James leading his team to victory in Boston tomorrow night with out Love is still good. But if they want to have any chance at the NBA Title this year, they will not only need Kevin Love healthy, but they will need him playing at his best ever.
