Minnesota’s carried out their first series of the season against a Baltimore team. The Orioles were one of a very few amount of teams who didn’t have any major off season disruptions. Considering super-star players like Giancarlo Stanton, Jake Arrieta, Evan Longoria, and Dee Gordon were all sent off to different states, a few low-tier trades do not make any headlines. Jose Berrios, who’s anticipated to take the league by storm this season, took the mound for the Twins and seized his first win of 2018; adding on to his flourishing MLB record. Kevin Gausman was assigned the third role in the starting pitcher rotation, and he exhibited why that choice was made in his first appearance of the season. Gausman failed to produce more than four innings, while allowing to let his Orioles fall behind at a 6 run deficit.
Minnesota begun the damage to the scoreboard right out of the gate. Dozier, who owns the lead off position, sent one deep for the first play of the game. Dozier’s home run spread the momentum among his teammates as Eduardo Escobar and Byron Buxton extended their lead to 4-0 by the end of the first inning. As the third inning came around, Minnesota pushed the Orioles into an even larger hole as Miguel Sano hit a homer, followed up by a consecutive homer off Eduardo Escobar’s wood.
Furthermore, Brian Dozier seized his first multi-home run game of the season, as he gave the Twins their 7th and final run of the ball game. In Jose Berrios’s first outing, he displayed a stellar performance, shutting out the Orioles, and pitching a complete game. Only three of the balls Jose threw over the plate the Orioles happened to put into play. Minnesota traveled to Pittsburgh to take on the undefeated Pirates team. Baltimore flew out to Houston to take on the reigning World Series Champions.
