The NBA regular season is over and the playoffs get started this weekend. We want to take a look at the potential MVP winners and give our take on why they should and why they should not win the honor. First, let’s get started with James Harden of the Houston Rockets. They will be back in action on Sunday when they face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the firs round of the Western Conference Playoffs.
James Harden should absolutely win the MVP this year. He is the best player on the team that has the best record in the NBA. The Rockets went 65-17 on the year and are the number one seed in the West. He led the NBA in scoring at 30.4 points per game. He averaged 8.8 assists and 5.4 rebounds. He is the best and most dangerous offensive player in the league. Unlike Lebron James, James Harden LOVES to go to the free throw line. He gets to the free throw line over 10 times per game and makes over 85% of them.
But James Harden did miss 10 games this year. Usually, the NBA likes to reward players that play as close to 82 games as possible. Michael Jordan rarely missed a game. He understood that the fans paid to see him and he didn’t want to disappoint. But injuries are usually out of your control in Harden’s defense. And speaking of defense, Harden does not play much. Sure he gets almost two steals a game, but he can’t lock anyone down as good as Lebron can. Also, Harden got a new weapon this year to join him in the back court, Chris Paul. Paul is one of the best point guards in the league and Harden’s increased success is partially owed to Paul being a Rocket.
So where do I stand with my argument? The good WAY out weighs the bad with Harden. I will stick by my earlier statement that James Harden absolutely deserves and should win the MVP this year. I will cover Lebron James tomorrow. Trust me, you won’t want to miss it. I have very strong feelings about LBJ.
