The Kansas Jayhawks may have just put the dagger in the chest of the Oklahoma Sooners on Monday night. In what was considered as a must win for a struggling Sooner team, they got absolutely blown out at Allen Fieldhouse. The 104-74 loss was their sixth in a row and there may be no coming back from this losing streak.
Kansas got one of their most well balanced efforts of the year. Devonte’ Graham’s streak of playing all 40 minutes finally came to an end last night. The senior point guard got a well deserved 5 minutes off at the end of the game as the lead swelled to 30. Graham was sensational on the night and had 23 points including 5-11 from the 3 point line. He also had 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. It was one of his best performances of the year. The Jayhawks had 6 players in double figures and looked like a legitimate Final 4 Team for the first time in a few weeks.
For Oklahoma, this was a night they would like to forget. Head coach Lon Kruger had his team ranked in the top 5 of the country just weeks ago. But the wheels fell off the bus and it is unlikely that they will be dancing in March. The freshman phenom Trae Young had another awful game. He only had 11 points and shot 3-13 from the field. It is going to be a real shame to not be able to see him play in the NCAA Tournament. They do have 3 regular season games left that are all winnable, but it may not be enough to impress the NCAA Tournament Committee.
There are some great games on tap tonight including the 2nd ranked Michigan State Spartans hosting Illinois and the 21st ranked West Virginia Mountaineers playing at a hot Baylor team. We will have a full report later.
