Joecelyne Lamoureux-Davidson gave the US Womens Hockey Team their first Gold Medal since 1998. After a tied hockey game in regulation, a tied OT, six rounds of a shootout, Joecelyne finally ended it with a beautiful, yet dirty deke move on Canada's goalie, Shannon Szabados. The States and Canadians have had a long time rivalry in womens hockey, but for another four years, America will be crowned the champions of the world.
The first period of regulation was awfully low-scoring and a goal wasn't put between the pipes until 26 seconds remained in regulation. Hillary Knight, the USA forward was the special lady to grab the goal, off a wrist shot. Hillary had the upper-edge over the Canadians defense as they were on a power play.
Two minutes into the first period, Haley Irwin made a statement for Team Canada, slipping one by Shannon Szabados glove. Five minutes subsequent to this goal, Canada took the lead for the first time as Marie-Philip Poulin slapped a shot on Szabados after a pass from Agosta. This was all the action the second period held in store for us. The next twenty minutes of play only dealt with penalties, and one lone goal that put the Americans back into the game, with a goal off Monique Lamoureux-Morando's stick on a breakaway shot.
Overtime held nothing but chills and anticipation for a breakaway game winner, but the reality differed, overtime ended in a tie. In the shootout, Marvin, Agosta, Daoust, and Kessel snuck one pass their opponents goalie before Canada missed one goal, Joecelyne scored one, then Canada missed their final opportunity giving the USA the Gold Medal.
