When you're looking for a good under play in Major League Baseball, trying to spot the potential pitcher's duel is probably the most important part of what I figure is the harder play: spotting an under, rather than an over. High scoring teams going up against each other are pretty easy to see coming, but a low run battle on the mound in search of the under bet, can sometimes prove hard to come by. This was the case with the Dodgers vs Cardinals play I had yesterday with under 8.
The pitchers at hand were Brandon McCarthy for the Dodgers and Adam Wainwright fro the Cards. On the surface, this one wreaks of a hard fought pitchers duel, but you should keep in mind that the Dodgers are 7th in the National League in runs scored and 5th in On Base percentage. The Cardinals are near the lower end of the same stats, but they're still a winning team and combine a winning team with a well scoring onem and the potential for that under gets harder to realize.
In the end, I decided it was the start of the dogs days for baseball, where we start seeing the boring pitching duels in the heat of the summer. It doesn't hurt that McCarthy and Wainwright are unsung members of their rotations that are lighting it up this season.
For today's pick, I'm going with the World Series Champion Chicago Cubs. The Cubs are having a disappointing year so far as they find themselves 2 games below 500 at 25-27. Their opponent will be a team from yesterday as they face the St. Louis Cardinals for the start of a new series.
Best play for today: Take the Chicago Cubs over the St. Louis Cardinals moneyline.
