The donating blood reduces the chances of heart diseases because after donating blood the viscosity of blood decreases.
After donating bllod the store amount of iron reduces from your blood because excess Iron in blood causes load on body parts like in liver excess iron causes Hemochromatosis.
This one is not direct benifit but you get the cance of getting free health checkup of your body like your BP, Hemoglobin content of your blood and pulse etc.
It is found that donating blood reduced the amount of bad cholesterol from you body.
And offcourse it gives A feeling of joy and happiness after helping some one.
2-Who can donate blood ?
A person whose weight is above 50 kg can easily donate blood but the person should minimum take the gap of 3 months in donating the blood, but if you donating the blood ones or twice a year it is good.
But it should be in mind that person with any blood cancer or any severe infectious disease can't donate the blood because it can cause the risk of recipient life.
3- Procedure of blood Donation ?
Before collecting Blood few formalities and Test should be done -
• One has to fill the registration form that I generally know as (Blood Donation Intervener form)
• Hemoglobin Determination
• Blood type determination(weather blood group – A, B, AB, O) and also for RhD for transfusion compatibility.
• And Test for some specific infections – Syphilis, Hep B, Hep C
• Weight should be equal or more than 50 kg.
• Some time Blood pressure is also measured
• Temperature is optional in some condition it is necessary.
• Pulse Rate – 50 – 100 beats/min
After all this the Donor lied on a bed or Semi flexed chair.
• Band the arm with a rubber strip to vein become easily visible.
• Aseptic technique – Clean the side of puncture(where needle has to be inserted) using a suitable cleaner like alcohol based.
• Venepuncture – A 16 or 17 gauge needle is used for venepuncture.
• After insertion of needle we tape the tubing and blood starts to enters into the Blood collection Bag.
• The bag has Volume of 350 ml – out of which 50 ml is anticoagulant which is already in the bag and we only take 300 ml of you blood.
• And monitor the patient during the process of blood collection.
• And regularly mix the blood and anticoagulant in collection unit or packet.
3- How your Blood Can be used ?
• The donated blood can be used as such or separated to its constituent- RBC, PLATELET, and PLASMA.
• RBC – Patients that lost blood in operations , trauma or any cancer.
• Platelets are mainly used inpatients of LEUKEMIA.
• Plasma used for the patients of burn or Massive blood loss.
