I have tasted the future...
This unassuming machine is a vision of the future
As I pulled up to the movie theater I noted that their sign said, "try our bar and take your drink to your seat",
"Sounds like a plan" I thought
At the concession stand there was a separate line for drinks and I checked out their menu:
"Tennessee Breeze" sounded like an easy sipper to me so I order one, then the young man whipped out a cup tossed it in a machine and the machine poured my cocktail. When he first put my cup under there I was like "dear God no, not a premixed cocktail!" but it was not a pre-mixed cocktail, the machine poured each component separately. Mind blown. My world was rocked, "did that robot just pour me a cocktail?!" I exclaimed. The young man assured me that it had and then he put it on another machine that sealed a lid on top. A lid like they have on those bubble teas.
Fumbling in the dark and it being my second time with one of those lids I did manage to spill a little trying to jab my straw through the lid but once I did it was sublime. A perfectly acceptable cocktail made by heartless soulless machine.
I was once a certified bartender, I took a bartending class in college, I never actually worked as a bartender but it was nice to think that I always had that to fall back on. But now apparently I and millions others have become obsolete. Well not "millions" according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics about 611,000 people were employed as bartenders in 2006. They project some growth, I wonder if they have seen this thing. I note that this didn't take anyone's job, they didn't have cocktails there before but I can imagine these being used in bars and restaurants exclusively, no more inventory issues or over pours, any waitress can push the button, heck these could be self serve. I have been to the future and there are cocktails.
How do you feel about robot bartenders?
