I know most of you will be wondering why I was called a weevil. I know what comes to your mind when you see weevil is the pest kind which is an insect but no, the weevil in this context is relating to the petroleum sector.
Weevil is the term used to describe an inexperienced worker that is new to a drilling rig. I was called a weevil on my first visit to a drilling rig. I was so excited that finally I got the chance to visit an offshore rig.
I remember I was told to bring a tool (this is usually done by the roustabout), I went and came back 5 minutes later with the wrong tool and the rig crew members started laughing at me.
At the rig, I was shown the various systems and the components involved in drilling. When I first saw a blowout preventer(BOP) I was like wow because I never imagined it was that big.
It was really fun because I learnt about new tools and equipment.
