I was talking to one of my friends earlier and the topic of "taboo" came up. If you can't tell by now, I'm not really shy and luckily neither were they! I always find the whole concept of taboo topics to be absurd. I get that there is a time and a place where some things are inappropriate due to moral constraints, but why are some things just so offensive it's like people want to pretend they don't exist? I feel that these "taboos" stem from a lack of self identity and being uncomfortable with ideas and concepts that one does not agree with, but perhaps one of you will change my perspective today. I feel that perhaps the taboo of these topics is really just our own judgement and assumptions based on our perspective, but sometimes there are uncomfortable topics that need to be discussed and awareness raised. Obviously sexual activity is one of the biggest taboos in Western culture, but how repressed as a society are we when we are uncomfortable talking about normal human functions and interactions? What are your thoughts? Namaste.
