Have you ever wondered how court reporters transcribe everything from the court room?
How they manage to keep up with the arguing?
The secret is unsurprisingly that they "cheat", as in they don't type as everybody else.
They use a whole different system, with fewer keys. There is however a few upsides to this, for one they do not have to spell in the convenient sense.
Instead of spelling they sound out words as they write entirely phonetically. There is also the fact that there is fewer keys on their keyboard, which means some letters are by necessity pressing several other letters together.
Here is the layout.
This might look somewhat scary, but it is really not that scary, there is a learning curve. Pretty steep learning curve, but personally as a person learning currently I think the upside is big enough that I will learn it.
The need for letters not on the keys means you have to learn how to combine to generate them.
There is the very handy alphabet courtesy of Mirabai Knight of Plover fame this program makes it possible to do steno without new hardware or the expensive software normally required.
Alphabet
this is the way to combine keys to make new keys not on the board normally.
It is in fact possible to learn this without a new keyboard, as long as you have a nkro keyboard.
To learn more I would recommend Aerick on youtube
Also I am not good at steno yet so this was written without the use of steno, which is still much faster for me.
