This is a short film I was commissioned to make for Pride Month 2022 for the SYFY channel's social media. The brief was to explore how identity intersects and overlaps genre... what genre means to your own personal journey of discovery.
As someone who identifies as non-binary, or more specifically gender neutral, (feeling like I am a mixture of both binary genders)... I decided to explore genre by relating stories to people. Stories are rarely just one genre, like humans they are more complex than that. You can't always easily place a book in a genre box and sometimes humans don't neatly fit into boxes either.
We have a need to want to categorise people and things, sort them in our minds and keep things neat and tidy... but life is messy and people are messy too and I hope that this little short stop motion film highlights and shares creatively a little about how it feels to be someone who doesn't neatly fit into any one box.
Massive thank you to SYFY for enabling me to make this piece and for Tongal who advertised the brief for me to pitch on. If you want to pitch for work like this too here's a link that benefits us both if you are successful: https://tongal.com/l/hm52mj33f41v
