The stillness of the night covers you like a blanket — ready to tuck you into bed. You await drowsiness with full anticipation and yet unwelcome thoughts keep you awake. You lie on your bed and sigh. How long must you wait for that wonderful escape called sleep? Your body gets tired by the minute but for some reason, your mind gets more active. The darkness seem to feed it with energies out from nowhere and seep right into your brain, making your sensations even more alive. You badly want to drift into that beautiful slumber. Yet, the uneasiness make you toss and turn. You sit straight up and grab the ac remote.
"Maybe it's the cold", you say to yourself while adjusting the room temperature.
All of a sudden, a still small voice responds.
"Maybe... it is you who have become cold."
For a split second, you stop breathing. You snap your head to the right, making sure that the voice you heard wasn't from your head. At that very moment, your eyes catch an object that's quite hidden from view. It's a book. A familiar one. You decide to grab and blow some dust out of it.
"The Story of God" (Holy Bible)
You read aloud as if you've never seen it before. Somehow you find the whole scenario amusing. A condescending grin spreads across your face and with a tinge of mockery, you open the book and read. And just about a few seconds later, you begin to drift off into that most awaited sleep.
At long last, an answered prayer.
