If you read my previous blog, I mentioned that it was on my bucket list to make a bow from scratch and an arrow from scratch. So in this blog i'm going to tell you how to make a bow from scratch. Keep in mind this bow that you will make will probably not be as good as a store bought bow.
So there are two ways to make a homemade bow. One way is to make it out of pvc pipe and the other way is to make it out of wood. In this blog i'm going to teach you how to make it out of wood (sadly, i forgot to take pictures of it all). So you don't want to pick the wrong wood because some are to soft. So stay away from any trees you can push your thumb nail through the outer layer.
So now that you have found the correct tree type, pick a branch about 1 to 1 and a half inches thick in the center and 3 to 5 feet long while maintaining 1 to 1 and 1 half inches, cut it down. (you will need to have a knife for the entire process) once you have cut it down, shave off the the outer layers until you get to a greenish yellow, then stop. Find the middle of the bow and mark it with a sharpie or marker. Then start slowly and carefully shaving off the new outer layer until both ends are even. Then make notches on both ends half of an inch down from the tip. Then take a string and make a loop on both sides. Notch the loop around one side of the bow. But the second loop should be one inch short of the other side, so bend you bow and notch the string to the other side of the bow and you now have a complete homemade bow.
