Where do I even begin about my Mom? My brother and I are extremely blessed. Throughout our lives our Mom has been nothing but encouraging, selfless, and loving. She’s added stability, balance, and kindness to our little family through good times and bad.
She also gave my brother and I the complete freedom to explore what interested us and the room to fail and make mistakes—because that’s how we grow and learn. This has been the greatest gift because it has given us the confidence to chase our dreams and accomplish things we otherwise would’ve never dreamed of.
Throughout all of the ups and downs she’s always given us her love and total support. You don’t realize how rare of a thing this is until you get out into the world and begin to live your life. I’m grateful for all that but I’m also grateful we’ve managed to stay close after thirty-plus years of living hundreds of miles away from each other.
This is proof of the resiliency of love. Love endures.
Mom, I can’t even begin to tell you how much you are treasured and loved. It’s been one of the great pleasures of my life to try to reciprocate for all you’ve done for us.
Happy Mother’s Day to you Mom and to all the mothers out there! You add more value to this world than you can possibly comprehend.
The Importance of Expectations
Change is scary because with times of great change also bring an abundance of uncertainty. The sheer volume of change that humanity will be enduring this next decade will, very likely, make the Industrial Revolution look like just a minor diversion. In times like these it’s easy to feel fear about all the uncertainties we face—job loss, loss of self-worth, a new economy, fears surrounding AI and robotics. Humanity is staring into a literal abyss of unknowns and it’s affecting us on a variety of different levels.
It’s true, we don’t have much control of how it all unfolds. What we do have control of is our mindspace, how we view change and come to terms with it. When it comes to thinking about the future this JRE podcast with Chamath Palihapitiya has put my mind at ease like few things or people have. I'm a firm believer that our own expectations effect our futures more than we can even begin to understand.
Yes, times of change are scary and can leave us feeling like our lives are spinning out of control. It’s important to remember that times of change are also times of growth as well. Perhaps keeping ourselves grounded, staying optimistic, expecting a better world, and seeing to it that our minds are at peace is the most important thing we can do for ourselves and those around us right now. Listening to this podcast might just be a good first step, at least it was for me.
All for now. Thanks so much for reading.
