Today’s news has been filled with the same old doom and gloom and the crypto market has slid a bit south today yet I’ve been in a place of gratitude since my eyes opened this morning.

Today, at exactly 5:23am, marked the beginning of my forty-eighth trip around the sun. The thought of it blows me away, mostly in a good way. I hear a lot of people my age grumbling about getting older but I don’t count myself among them. Aches and pains are a small price to pay for what you get in return.

I’m beyond thankful for how I see the world now. I think back to what a naive, timid, wishy-washy, approval seeking people pleaser I was when I was younger. Because of this, I experienced only a fraction of the tremendous bandwidth of life. Time has worked a little of its magic with me but I’m still very much a work in progress.

Aging, if faced head-on with eyes open, helps to begin filtering out those self-limiting traits. Karma is more than willing to hurl you headlong into the same situations, again and again, until you “get it”. With enough repetitions, most of us eventually do or end up broken.

I have many wishes for this next year of my life. Quite honestly, what excites me most are the unknowns...the new destinations, the new people, the new experiences, and all the work yet to be written.

I hope to be filled with the same optimism when I’m 102 and blowing my dentures out onto my birthday cake. Of all my wishes, the one I wish for the most is this great curiosity I have will never fade away.
