Hi Steemians
It is been a while that we are fighting to save the life of many innocent street dogs. Their only mistake is that they were born in the streets and have nobody to protect them.
In Tunisia people are a bit choosy. Nice looking pets are always lucky to find someone who cares for them. And the others are waiting for the day of their execution. But of course not all of them. Some of them are just lucky and others could be rescued. This dog here was rescued by firefighters.
We find cats more luckier than dogs. In the villages people keep all kind of pets as cats, dogs, chickens and many others. They keep them safe, feed them and bread them. They live like a family member who is loved and well treated.
In the city life is different and many people see animals as source of infections for humans who carry diseases and are life threatening. I cant deny that many dogs have bitten children and became a danger in some areas, but maybe we should also ask ourselves " Why would a dog react that way?"
The Tunisian government is killing dogs since years . Thats why you rarely see a dog walking in the city when you visit Tunisia.
Charities and many people are trying until now to stop these actions and could be a bit successful in the past months. The government was convinced and offered free care and vaccination for cats and dogs.
Now in the last few weeks we hear again that they started killing dogs. Many people shared photos on social medias. Everybody is angry. We thought it was over, but seems like there is something wrong. People tried to find out the reason for this violence. The answer they got from them makes you think about a new solution.
The police said they had to do it, because they are getting many complains everyday. People are worried about their children and there are some dogs out there making the children live in fear.
Now the question is " who is responsible? Dogs or children?"
We will still fight for the right of these dogs to be accepted as friends and no enemies. All of us have the right to live happy on this planet without any violence.
