Kay sat absentmindedly on the long couch in their averagely furnished sitting room, with his earpiece plugged in to his somewhat outdated Blackberry Touch phone.
His favorite song, Tatiana Manaois' Like you, was on repeat, and he tried valiantly to sing along; however, he knew deep down inside of him that he wasn't getting motivated at that point. Considering what he had been through up to date, and the tough luck that had constantly paraded itself around him, he always knew he had every right not to be motivated.
He had successfully rounded up his degree program in the University, with not just any type of result, but a second class upper qualification in Marine Engineering, and he knew he was set to take over the world.
That was 26 months ago and yet the only thing he had successfully taken over, was the Television remote control, and the long couch he happened to be sitting on at that moment. He was not growing any younger, and these thoughts usually scared the living daylights out of him, so in most cases, he preferred to leave his mind bare.
Not that he was a lazy dude, or he hadn't tried; however, for reasons vague to him, things usually took a wrong turn when the finish line was near. For instance, 3 months after his graduation, he put in an application for the position of a trainee in a top organization, and after the aptitude test, he had scored the highest and that made him known to the recruiter, even before the final interviews, a blessing he thought.
At the interviews, he aced the questions, being a brilliant boy, and he was set to resume; but just then, the organization had a court order for certain transactions they carried out many years back, and that put the recruitment on hold. Initially, they had been in contact with himself and the other two candidates shortlisted, but after the delivery of judgement, the company was hit hard, and the rest is history.
He also remembered another instance, even more recently, in which he had decided to get an Internship job, just to get himself out of the house, and probably gain some experience; with the hope that the company in question would eventually employ him after the 6 months duration, when they saw how good he was. In real truth, it was a volunteer job that didn't include any salaries, just transportation allowance, but he dared not tell his parents, because he knew how they'll feel.
So he started and completed the 6-month long internship, worked his ass off all through the period, only for the company to send a mail stating that they were not ready to take full time employees just yet, and that they'll contact him soon. Well that was 3 months ago now. Since then, he had put in applications left-right-center, written and re-written his CV, but nothing had come forth.
These were just instances in an almost endless list, one he wasn't proud of. As his mind lingered, he thought about the love and care his family had shown through his low points thus far. As a matter of fact, everyone in that house had been the only reason why he had not given up just yet.
His parents had made sure they don't default in giving him a monthly stipend for his upkeep, his elder sister from her salary, bought his clothes as often as she could, and his younger brother never for once disrespected him despite his predicament; to him, they were the real MVP's in the game of his life, and he loved them for it.
Just then, his mind returns back to the present, and Kay is all pumped up. He foresees a bright future, one in which he is able to provide for himself and his loving family; he thinks about his yet-to-be-known wife and unborn children, how they'll probably get deprivation should he quit; he knew he couldn't continue to mull in failure, and he decided to keep trying, knowing that every hustler has a payday.
It's 2 years later, and Kay works as a consultant trainee in a top firm. His psychology of positive thoughts drew him closer to opportunities, now he's doing quite well, and the future looks brighter.
Never Give Up!
The End!
- Initially, I had drafted this as a captivating story, however along the line, I just figured out this could just spur someone on. It's tough out there, but nobody ever made it by giving up. Keep calm and keep trying, it'll all make sense someday.
There's this saying:
If plan A doesn't work, remember that there really 25 other alphabets
If you don't have a story, nobody will appreciate your glory.
