Summer vacation had set in after a 15-day-long half-yearly examination. I was excited as I had already enrolled myself in a Science and Leadership Training Camp from July 5-8, 2018. The motto of the camp, meant for students between classes-VI to X, was - "Come and see the world in a new light with visionaries."
On Day One, the registration and introduction formalities took place, which got underway from 10 a.m. This was followed by Sanskrit shlokas and yogasanas. There were about 100 participants from five - six schools of Dibrugarh district. It was a mix-match of all the students in four groups, namely, Kanaklata, Mulagabhoru, Lachit and Chilarai. The camp was organized by the Manthan Vidya Niketan at Bokul Majgaon of Dibrugarh town. The organizers of the camp, namely, Dr. Giriraj Kusre, Sunil Sureka and Sandeep Poddar briefed us on the proceedings of the scheduled programme.
On Day Two, our group - Kanaklata, comprising of 30 students, was briefed mainly on animal husbandry, water logging problems, dengue and waste disposal. The deliberations were made by the faculties from the veteri-nary department, PHE department, and were very informative.
On the third day, we were taken to Goshala, where we witnessed a variety of beautiful breeds of cattle. We were also taken to Lahowal, where we saw how the process of vermi-composting is done. I delightedly caught hold of an earthworm in the palm of my hand. The hectic day ended amidst great excitement.
The last day was again full of surprises, one of the biggest being an interactive session with a great innovator from Assam - Dr. Uddhab Kr. Bharali. His innovations mainly benefit people who are either old or disabled, the latest being a simple machine for ploughing the field by a disabled person with the help of his toothed shoes.
I thoroughly enjoyed the camp. It was both fun and informative, and it drove home serious messages.
Interestingly, the food which was provided to us at the camp was prepared from the organic kitchen garden within the school premises. I am ever-indebted to the organizers for facilitating such a unique summer camp with a difference. It helped me in discovering myself and I am looking forward to attending many more such camps in the years to come.
