OMG OMG OMG!
My 2018 grow experience has finally given us a gift! If you have been keeping up with my blog, you saw my first little plant buddy experience. Here is the link to that post that shared that experience.
This grow started as a seed from what I believe was Strawberry Banana Kush. I could be wrong, so if anyone is actually good at ID'ing these things just by looking, be sure to let me know what's up!
I was unfortunately not able to get together photos for the whole process like I did the first time. The seed was sprouted around April 20, 2018 and it started to grow out of a small pot shortly thereafter. It got plenty of sun and breeze every single day all through the hot summer. It was fed straight up tap water for the first couple of months.
The end of May came around and she was planted directly into the ground in a small garden bed that we had tomatoes, peppers and squash growing in. It was at this point that the growth really took off! Shortly after this is when unsulfured molasses and distilled white vinegar was introduced to the feed water. There was also some spent coffee grounds that we tossed over the soil.
We had a couple really hot days during the summer that actually burned a couple of the tops. Oh yeah, we did some topping to the plant so that it would become a big ass bush with multiple heads. So although we lost a couple of tops, we had others to spare and learned that on really hot days it's a good idea to somehow place a covering to give the plant some shade from the laser blasts from the sky. We got though the worst part of the summer and here I finally have some early flowering shots.
So time went by, and we finally got this big beautiful lady!
The day finally came, two weeks after we switched the feed back to straight water, to harvest.
We began taking her down in pieces and drying her out.
After giving her plenty of time to dry out, it was time for a trim! What came from that was some really pretty nugs!
We then gave her plenty of time jarred up. Only visiting to breathe in that aroma. Then at last, for Thanksgiving, we give thanks for the rest and relaxation that nature has given us in the form of some little flowers. And all we had to do was be consistent and patient.
The nugs are firm and when you break them up to put them into a grinder, they leave your fingers sticky and smelling like the buds.
The ground flower smelled even stronger! NOMNOMNOM!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, and also HAPPY HOLIDAYS my Steemian friends!
We gave her all day sun, and good watering intervals with some basic nutrients. I feel like putting her into the ground also helped her get as big as she did. My first attempt was done in a canvas bag and inconsistent sunlight with the last half of the flowering done in the cold.
She was a learning experience and I can't wait to try this again next season. I did manage to get a cutting before harvesting and it has actually taken root in a pot. When it warms up outside in a couple months or so, we will see if we have the baby carry on the strain.
