His incredible story begins in January 1962, when Selak boards the train in Sarajevo to Dubrovnik. On the tracks of the railway line is a boulder. The train derailed and fell into the underlying river. Just before he died of exposure, he is grabbed by an unknown man at his broken arm and taken to safety. 17 people die in this train wreck.
It was the beginning of his second life - and the beginning of a series of bizarre events that would provide enough material for ten more sequels of the film series "Final Destination". He was followed by the death for the next 40 years of his life.
One year later he experiences the next shock!
Only one year later, 1963, the fate strikes again during his first and only scheduled flight. In 10,000 meters all the drive nozzle of a DC-8 fail, the cabin pressure drops and the machine is falling dramatically in height. And because this is not bad enough, in addition the rear door of the machine opens. Selak sees stewardesses and passengers are pulled out of the aircraft. Then it throws him to the outside. 19 people die, but Selak landed in a haystack and can survive these emerge unharmed.
The bus!
The pitch will remain faithful to him. Three years later, he got into a normal bus. You think: What can happen in a normal Bus? Well, 1966 he falls with a bus from a bridge into a river. Four people die, but Selak can swim to the shore with a few bruises and abrasions.
The fire in the car!
His trust in public transport is finally gone. Understandably, he will proceed to go by car to his destination - more or less intact. It should remain a pipe dream. Twice his cars starts to burn. While in 1970 he can save him from his car before the fuel tank exploded, he was locked in, in his car, in 1973. Because of a fire in the engine compartment flames are pushing through the ventilation into the vehicle. His hair singed, skin and bones remain intact.
The bus accident and the car accident!
In the 1990s, Selak can look forward to his sixth and seventh 'birthday'. In 1995 he was hit by a bus in the Croatian capital Zagreb. Needless to say that he also suffers only minor injuries. 1996 his losing streak ends in the mountains. Selak drives serpentines, when he had to dodge a UN truck in a curve. His car crashes into the guardrail and overturns. Fortunately, Selak is not buckled. Goodness to the centrifugal forces he is thrown outside the car, before his car falls and explodes 150 feet in depth.
Finally the losing streak ends after 40 years!
2003, everything changed. Two days after his 73rd birthday, Selaks eternally hapless ends. He wins the lottery, the jackpot in game 7 of 39 and won six million kuna (converted 800,000 euro). Finally the fate not played against him.
The press discovers the story of Selka and celebrates him as the "happiest man in the world".
