The need for patience in our lives is as essential as our daily nutrients.
There are instances, when a decision needs to be made at that moment.
Then there are other times where we will benefit more by exercising patience. With patience
oftentimes the answers will come.
Mistakes are born often from task we rush into without giving much thought or consideration
to the decisions' long term effects. Sometimes the answer is just to wait.
Time can bring an entirely new view of the matter at hand.
Patience also eliminates the urge to, 'make it happen'.
Patience is a valuable virtue, a jewel undiscovered.
The lack thereof can be likened to the man that came ever Friday to the river's bank; to board the ship that would pick up passengers for the return trip home.
He had come every Friday for 8 weeks hoping to board the ship to return to his country but unlike many others he did not wait for the ship's arrival.
Since it did not have a designated time to arrive, those hoping to board the ship would have to wait.
Yet for this young man the ship always took too long.
He had a passion for his native country and a deep longing to return home. There was nothing that kept him from being able to board any of the other ships that had docked in weeks past, other than the fact that he did not have the patience to wait.
On the ninth week he returned to the river's bank where he was told by fellow awaiting passengers that
they had been given a time on that day for the ship to arrive.
They tried to encourage him to stay and not to leave because this would be the final docking for the return trip home.
They told him that if he truly wanted to see his home again, he must be there when the ship came.
The ship was scheduled to arrive at noon. He said he would stay because he wanted to return to his country. He knew this was the last ship that would take him there.
At noon there was no sign of the ship. The young man said his good-byes to his fellow countrymen with tears in his eyes. "I must leave now, he said."
The others questioned his refusal to wait. One woman asked the young man "Why can't you wait a few minutes?"
"Your whole life you've dreamed about this moment. You must be patient and you can go with us."
"What is patience, asked the young man?" With a puzzled look on his face, he turned and walked away.
The ship docked at 12:05.
