I like to tell stories – true ones and completely fabricated ones. Can you tell the difference?
I’m starting a new series that will entail storytelling like you have never seen before! OK. That was a lie. You’ve probably seen storytelling like this before. But I’m not going to tell you if my stories are truth or fiction. It will be up to the reader to make that call. Do you think you’re able to make the correct judgment?
Let me give you a quick summation of how I came up with this idea.
So there I was, getting out of the shower...
I was thinking about some new content for my blog page and thought that some stories from my past would really add a touch of the human element to my writing, which has mostly been humor to this point. Then I thought, “Do I really want to share all of my deepest, darkest secrets and other life events with complete strangers?” I decidedly answered, “No.”
As it turned out, I actually answered “No” audibly and woke up my wife, who was sleeping. (She’s a light sleeper. Our shower is not actually next to the bed.) When I walked out of the bathroom, she asked, “Who are you talking to in there?”
I thought to myself, “Oh my gods! Was I saying everything out loud during my shower without even realizing it?”
She replied, “Yes. I heard everything. Are you feeling OK?”
I was a little confused and tried not to think for fear of not being able to contain my inner monologue. I looked away, grabbed my man-pajamas and silently walked out to the living room.
Then it hit me.
Did any of this actually just happen? Did I walk into the living room? Do I really have man-pajamas? Was my wife really awake and talking to me? Did I take a shower and was I talking to myself? Would anyone know if I just made this stuff up?
I continued through the living room and into my creativity office. I wrote this idea down on a piece of scrap paper, looked at it and said, “Yep! That’s my new writing project!”
My wife shouted from the bedroom, “SHUT-UP ALREADY AND COME TO BED!”
And so ‘My Life and My Lies’ was born.
I hope you like the series! It’s going to be the best ever! Some posts might be long. Some might be short. But all of them will be great!
