As most ladies know, there are times when you crave something. Sometimes it's just a normal craving of something your body needs. Other times it's a hormonal craving and you will get emotional if it is something you can't have e.g out of season fruits.
A few years ago I had just come home from work and made my way upstairs to find out if there was any dinner for me (it was already 8pm and I hadn't eaten all day). You know what they say about woman and food.
Anyway, needless to say I wasn't in the best of moods, I get to my mom's room to find my teenage sister crying uncontrollably. She had just hit puberty and hormones had kicked in. She was crying because she had been craving a chicken burger for bout an hour and my mom wasn't going to buy her one. Me being hungry (and finding out that there wasn't any food for me) reluctantly agreed to get my tired butt back in the car to get her and myself some food. All the way to Mcdonald's she was still crying...
The moment she held the burger in her hands the crying stopped. She no longer had a craving for her burger. She is blessed with being one of those skinny people who could eat all day and not get fat so she ate it anyway. On the other hand I'm not one of those people. I just look at food and gain weight so I ate my dinner hating what I knew it was going to do to my hips and went home.
I didn't judge her though. I use to get cravings like that too, but soon figured out I wasn't craving eating the item. I just wanted to hold it. I still have cravings like that. There is no way of knowing when I'm only craving holding the item or if I actually want to eat it. So I would have Daniel drive me to the shops with him when I have a craving. I would get the object of my desire and will walk around holding it. If it is not something I want by the end of our shopping trip I put it back.
Recently I also developed a new set of cravings... for things that are no longer on the market anywhere... Yep. Imagine craving a cigarette and no one sells it. Fortunately I'm a grown woman and have a little bit of self control. After 3 days of craving the same thing you kind of get over it.
But here is a list of things I have craved but couldn't get:
Passion Fruit Krushers from KFC - Discontinued years ago.
A few years ago Woolworths made lemon filled Glazed Donuts, I have an allergy to donuts so generally I don't find it worth while to eat. Except for those. They stopped making them almost 2 years ago.
So this isn't actually a craving I had. It's just something I have wanted since they stopped selling it in 2002. In SA there was a blue Sparletta drink. Bubblegum flavored. It was my favorite drink but I guess it didn't sell well because months after the release they stopped making it.
What is some of the things you crave that have been discontinued?
