THE GROAC'H OF LOK ISLAND
The enfrogged

La Groac'h handed over the steel net, and said, smiling:
"Let's see, beautiful fisherman, what you will catch."
"I'll take the devil!" shouted Bellah, throwing the open net on the Groac’h’s head. "In the name of the Savior of men, cursed witch, become in body what you are in heart!"
La Groac'h could only utter a cry which ended in a muffled murmur, for the young girl's wish was fulfilled; the beautiful water fairy was nothing more than the hideous queen of mushrooms."
Bellah quickly closed the net and ran to throw it into a well, on which she placed a stone sealed with the sign of the cross so that it could only be raised with that of the tombs, on the day of judgment.
She then returned very quickly to the fishpond; but all the fish had already come out and were advancing to meet her, like a procession of colorful monks, shouting in their little hoarse voices:
"This is our lord and master, the one who delivered us from the steel net and the golden frying pan."
“And it will also be the one who restores your Christian form,” said Bellah, drawing Saint Corentin’s knife. But as she was about to touch the first fish, she saw, very close to her, a green frog that wore the magic bell around its neck and was sobbing on its knees, its two little legs placed on its little heart. Bellah felt a blow from within, and she cried out:
''Is it you, is it you, my little Houarn, king of my joy and my worry?"
"It's me!" replied the little enfrogged boy.
Bellah immediately touched him with the blade she held, he regained his form, and they both kissed, crying with one eye for the past and laughing with the other for the present.
She then did the same to the fish, which returned to what they had been.
As she finished, we saw the little korandon from the rock arriving, dragged into its nest, as if in a chariot, by six large cockchafers that had hatched from the six stone eggs.
"Here I am, pretty girl! he shouted to Bellah; the spell that kept me there is broken, and I come to thank you because you made a man from a hen."
He then led the two lovers to the ''Groac'h'' chests, which were filled with precious stones, telling them to take as much as they wanted.
Both loaded their pockets, their belts, their hats, and even their large Léon breeches; finally, when they had taken all they could carry, Bellah ordered her staff to become a winged car large enough to take them to Lannilis with all those she had delivered.
There, the marriage banns were published, and Houarn married her, as he had long desired. Only, instead of buying a small cow and a lean pig, he bought all the land in the parish, and he established there, as farmers, the people he had brought from the island of Lok

Hello, my name is Vincent Celier.
I am writing translations of folk tales that I found in public domain French books, so that people who do not understand French may enjoy them too.
Bellah succeeded in her endeavor: she caught the Groac'h in the steel net and put her away for good.
Then she delivered Houarn and all the other men imprisoned by the Groac'h. And the korandon was also free.
The tale ends with the marriage of Houarn and Bellah who are now very rich from the gold and jewels of the Groac'h.
Tomorrow, we'll start another legend from Lower Brittany.
Yesterday, I commented on a post of , who lives in Finland. Taraz always includes one of his photographs in each of his posts. This is the one for this particular post:

At the end of my comment, I added as a joke:
Does your job include picking strawberries? 😄
, in his reply, said: The berries are great in Finland because of the long summer days - is it the same in Canada?
So, I had to explain that there is a difference in latitude of 11 degrees between Vancouver and the South of Finland. The area in Canada that is at the same latitude as southern Finland is not very populous and there are no good roads to connect to the South of Canada where most people live. So, even if the berries are great there (I don't know if it is true) nobody is growing them commercially.
Not too surprisingly, replied: ''In my head, Vancouver is much further north. :)''
Many people who never visit Canada believe that Canada is very cold and much closer to the North Pole than it is. Yes, some portions of Canada are very northern, but most people live in the South. Montreal is at the same latitude as Marseille and Vancouver is at the same latitude as Paris.
The Climate in Vancouver is roughly similar to the climate in Brest in Brittany. Nobody would think that Brest is very cold or very northern.
