We had an adventure recently and it was all because there was no Diet Dr. Pepper in Oklahoma.
Yes. Yes. I hear you wondering what type of adventure can happen in this situation. Why not sit down for a moment and allow me to tell you about it.
Early one morning Scott and I both woke up early and we had a conversation about what we would do that day. We both decided a short road trip, but that mean it would need to be near by.
In the northeastern corner of Oklahoma we had two counties we had not captured the county courthouses. In the image you can see the courthouses we have photos of in yellow. Having been through Mayes county many, many times and not having photographed that courthouse.

We decided it would be a very quick and reasonable trip if we collected those two courthouses. However, having been so recent after his surgery, Scott decided there needed to be an excuse.
Recalling his sister-in-law mentioned that the only Diet Dr Pepper she could find was at the Sam's in Joplin, Missouri, he decided THIS would be the reason. That was our story and we were sticking to it.
We took this image of the Mayes County Courthouse.
Our first courthouse was the one for Mayes County. We both were stunned to find it was ONLY A BLOCK FROM Highway 20. This is a rode we have taken about 25 or more times and we had never stopped to see it before.

We then passed through Vinita, Oklahoma, to grab a photo of the Ottowa County Courthouse. It was interesting that both courthouses had historical cannons in front of them.

Finally we ended up in Joplin and found the Sam's. We grabbed our two cases of excuses and headed towards home when Scott says,
Our reward for a trip well done!
