i truly believe that the future of ‘streamers’ is when they become decentralised versions of what they are today — at the moment the infrastructure which they run on is owned by someone else and centralised and while they might have sponsors and additional income streams from in-stream contests and competitions they normally have to pay a fee or wait for the transactions to be paid out at the end of a payment cycle.
recently i’ve started to see a bunch of ICO’s and experiments using api interfaces into games and overlays utilising back end payment systems using fast network crypto protocols like LIGHTNING to take near on instance digital payments for whatever it you want to take a payment on.
I think this is one of the killer applications for crypto and digital cash in the future is the gaming e-sports industry - custom productions and overlays that help with donations, charity, gambling, betting on the outcome of a game, pay to play in a squad game, online tutoring sessions — the whole nine yards, it’s coming and it’s coming fast.
imagine being able to process your own payments in real time, incredibly low fees using fairly native tools like your smartphone and qr codes globally to an audience that has digital funds unrestricted by a countries borders — you are literally opening yourself up to a global market place of people that want to take part and interact with you.
those that have already build their networks of thousands of viewers per day will be in the best position to reap the rewards of those systems and i truly believe their is a market place to be explored in the development, distribution and provisioning of those services to the ‘streamer’ community.
of course the steem blockchain is already in this position with the platform and those guys are doing incredible work over there to scale and onboard as many users as possible — of course it takes time to play catch up and provide the features of the first movers but you can take a dip into the market share of some of those platforms especially if at your core you have an existing battle tested blockchain.
something the existing top tier platforms do not have!
will we see amazon and the twitch relationship produce some kind of coin or token or will we see fortnite and it’s v-bucks launch some kind of ICO for a real life digital crypto coin based on the back of it’s existing gaming currency?
who’s to say, but it sure is exciting for the future!
cheers!
