Free WiFi
STREET PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES
I've always wondered what it would be like to live near enough to an Apple store as to be able to connect to their WiFi from my place. Apple has some of the fastest internet connections around the city, and it's free to connect to. Their WiFi needs to be that fast, given all the devices that are connected to it. I'm sure there are several channels, of course, but they also want to create a great experience for anyone connecting to their network.
Things have changed in 2020 and most people have their own super fast 4G on their smartphones, but back in the day, connecting to WiFi at an an Apple store was quite the experience.
In Covent Garden, there are cafés within WiFi range of the Apple Store, which used to be super cool. Again, in 2020, most people are now using their own data, even in cafés with free WiFi. Another reason for that is that the "free" WiFi in cafés isn't actually free anymore. There's been some kind of consolidation under a handful of companies to provide Internet access at cafés and restaurants. In return, your data is mined and used for advertising and other such stuff. No thanks.
