Hello Steenians !
Today I will share you about the Festival we celebrate yearly, I took this photos last year while watching it :D
This celebration started at the year of 2009, and became our city’s official festival, it is originally derived from tagalog word Kalap which is believed to be kind of tree. Others say kalap means the process of gathering woods, because during the old times people gather woods. The term was then use as the name of the festival to show the culture and history of Calapan City.
Celebrated every 21st of march, participated by different citizen of Calapan, people walk in the city street moving as one. It is intended to be a yearly celebration packed with performances and most significant of all, history. Along the main streets, floats detail the defining moments of the city's past, an insight into the City of Calapan of today.
They also perform a street dancing, which is my favourite because lots of teenager is dancing with a different traditional costume and choreography step. In this activity most of the participants is from different school. They need to dance while moving around 700 meters.
I also experience participating on this activity when I was high school student, and I know how hard it is. I remember the times we were practicing our performance before. Every day, all of us are practicing in the sunny field, like you can feel your sweat flowing at your body but you can’t stop and can’t lose energy because we need to practice like it will be the last.
THANK YOU SO MUCH !
How about you steemians? What is your festival experience? !
