Located on the Upper Square ("Horni Namesti" in the Czech language) in the historic center of the city, the Silesian Theater is home to two artistic ensembles - opera and drama - but it sometimes hosts ballet performances and concerts too.
Completed in 1805, the Silesian Theater is the third oldest theater of the Czech Republic. Built in the Neo-Rennaisance architectural style and decorated by renowned Vienna painters, it is also considered one of the most beautiful and architecturally prominent theaters of the country. One of the National Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic, the Silesian Theater is the most important cultural institution of the city.
