The Riksbank decided to launch its own cryptocurrency, E-Krona, to compete with digital currencies on the global market. This project is currently in its initial phase and is expected to be completed in 2019. The Swedish central bank Sveriges Riksbank plans to match the digital currency E-Krona with the country’s regular currency for small transactions between consumers, companies and authorities.
