State Medical University - Semey was established as "Semipalatinsk State Medical Institute" by the array of the USSR Ministry of Health Service and the USSR Board of ministers in 1952. In 1997, by the arrangement of the Health Services Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, it was altered into "Semipalatinsk (Semey) Government (State) Medical University".
During the period of its continuation for more than 55 years, the University has organized forty thousand highly qualified Doctor-experts, who not only provide services to Kazakhstan and CIS countries, but also foreign countries such as USA, Germany, Australia, India, Pakistan.
In 1953, the beginning group of aspirants was accepted in General Medicine Faculty. After this, in 1963, Pediatrics was opened, in 1991, Stomatology faculty, Pharmaceutical Faculty, Medico-prophylactic and the General Drug Defect in the city of Pavlodar was opened in 2003, which was later extended to a branch of Medical University In the form of a full medical institute was changed.
Right now more than 3500 aspirants learn General Medicine, medico –prophylactics, pharmaceutical, pediatrics and Stomatological faculties. Students carry out their internship study in the hospitals and clinics of Semipalatinsk, Pavlodar and Ust-Kamenogorsk cities. Apart from this university has its own clinic where student continues their internship.
