Boudhanath Stupa, located in central Kathmandu, is the holiest Tibetan Buddhist temple outside Tibet. It is listed in UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. There are more than 30 Tibetan Monasteries around Boudhanath.
It is believed that it was built right after the demise of Lord Buddha. The stupa was built using lots of gold for decoration. It is believed that it is a gateway to heaven serving as a horizon between earth and sky. The eyes of Buddha painted on stupa symbolize the all-seeing ability of the Buddha.
