I am almost posting on time for #WeekendExperiences, the Hive Community and weekly prompt founded by our friend . This week's post can be found at @galenkp/weekend-engagement-topics-week-254 #SublimeSunday (inspired by
) and #BeautifulSunday (initiated by
) are also great weekend-loving communities where we get to celebrate a couple days off.
This weekend is always one of my top 5 of the year so hang on!
First things first! The Prompt!
Would you assist someone being assaulted in the street or look the other way and walk past? Explain. This one is a hypothetical one as I have not had to deal with this really and I am sure what I think now might change in the moment based upon the exact circumstances. I would have to say yes I would assist. As much as it annoys me to see the current trend of whipping out your phone and yelling WORLDSTAR, it is actually helping a little as assaulters probably don't like being filmed. I definitely don't want to involve myself in a physical confrontation as I am fine with dumbasses dumbassing but I couldn't stand by and watch someone be attacked while defenseless. Knowing jiu jitsu gives you a small sense of being able to handle a conflict but any weapons change that game totally. Still, it is probably pretty foolish to intervene with the intent of de-escalating and diffusing the situation but I like to think I would do it.
Hockey & Rock & Roll Weekend
Those who have been following a year or more might recall that every Easter weekend, I roll to the big city to play in a hockey tournament what is highlighted by putting your team on stage to perform some sort of act. Generally a big concert with some unique and entertaining performances to say the least. I will leave the details to a proper post this week.
Teams travel in from all across our country to play in this tournament and are invited to put an act on stage, or volunteer/contribute artistically in another way. Play hockey all day, then a few hundred of the teams and friends congregate to celebrate with barely rehearsed live music and theatrics. This is a great act from a small city named Peterborough and I encourage you to hit follow now so you don't miss my expose of the rest of the acts.
One of those acts was us. No spoilers but we put up 30 minutes of Springsteen songs about hockey, Canada and USA. WHAT A FUN NIGHT!
Zambonioke?
Perhaps more foreshadowing for my post to come but how Canadian is Zambonioke? Ya, that's right. They crafted a wooden zamboni that you sit in and sing karaoke songs in the main lobby. You can imagine how silly this got when tail gaiters are coming in from the parking lot between games to sing songs.
Drunk Drivers
A slight downer on an awesome weekend was my chance encounter with a drunk driver. On one of the main streets in the big city after 1:00 am, I was driving a friend home. A few swerving cars moved to show me a car driving in our lane straight at us. I broke and avoided as much as I could but this drunk asshole hit us almost head on, hit 2 other vehicles, then fled the scene. Lucky to have had no injuries and the police were able to track down and arrest the moron. Now, I have to get this home and sacrifice plenty of wifepoints for something that was criminally not my fault! ;) .
Home Again
After all was said and done, a great time was had by all and there were plenty of fun highlights of an always epic weekend. The park was a great place to wander and reset with my fluff-muppet. Warm enough to not need a coat and almost promising some buds on the trees.
