On Sunday, I went to teach my strength-training class but when I got there I found that the entire suburb was without power, due to grid maintenance. I was coming down with flu and we waited so long for someone to come with a key that we decided to have coffee instead.
The coffee shop was also without electricity but they let us order instant coffee and I decided to wander around the garden with my camera for a while. The venue is a converted house that has been turned into a tea garden, pizzeria and a couple of small shops. Obviously it was done by some designer who thought retro kitsch and succulents was the best thing ever. Don't get me wrong, I am all for succulent gardening but this turned out a little too cute for me:
Old truck door
Some birdie thingies chilling on a stump
Don't really know what to say about this....
mosaic stuffs everywhere
Bowls of succulents scattered all over the place...
...and some pansies on the steps
I give this place about 7/10 on my nasty gnomes scale. The Serbian man who runs the pizzeria is a friend of the people I train with and he makes good pizza and even better Eastern European specials like burek and ćevapčići.
I also came home with a small souvenir of the garden: a variegated Jade. That's the beauty of succulents - you break off a piece of stem, stick it in the ground and it will grow. Variegated plants don't do well in full sun in my garden but I'll find a shady spot for this one once it is bigger and rooted.
