Summary:
The Theory of Modernization is a theory connected to multiple strands of modern history. It is a collection of studies and reports from sociologists, economists, and other areas of science and social science. The readings are all very similar in context and overall message but have slight differences on some of the theories that make up the whole. They follow the same trends of outlying the problem from a historical side describing where we came from, how we got here, and what is next if current trends of economic growth continue. It all starts with colonialism which started as a means to rebuild society and “enlighten” the rest of the world that was lagging behind the advances of the European mind. From here we entered a period of Modernization through advances in Technology which brings the colonist mindset back in a new form known as “Neo-colonialism”. What's important to note is that all of this starts and ends with one thing in mind, Profit, and Economic Growth.
