Hey guys!
Just want to say hello. I’m chilling at home, searching and generally making a mess with my new set of watercolor crayons. Fun story, I got them in a mystery box…. Let me rephrase that: I got 12 packs of them in 2 mystery boxes. That photo is of me holding up one pack with the swatches and mixes I made.
Ocean State Job Lots has mystery craft boxes and well, I’m a sucker for a good deal (you pay the $20-50, price may vary by store, and then get a store cash card for what you spent back, so essentially it’s free). So now I have 12 packs of these watercolor crayons, which were by far the most useful items in the boxes. There were a lot of iron-ons. A LOT of iron-ons, almost exclusively of numbers and letters. Also a lot of paving stone letter stamps, which I will try to find another use for. Maybe pet toys? They are plastic.
The watercolor crayons (gel crayons by another name) are in glue stick-like tubes, so they aren’t dried out or otherwise damaged from what I imagine is years sitting in a warehouse somewhere. Date of manufacture says 01/14. Almost 8 years prior.
Anyways, I did discover that the red and yellow make an okay flesh tone, and yellow plus blue makes an almost-perfect sap green. My personal sap green tastes run olive to be sure. I even managed a dark grey from mixing all 4 colors! Anyways, next up will be cutting sections off to create a palette, and using a palette knife to mix chunks together for more color options. With 12 packs of these, I can afford to mess up a few times! LOL.
Wish me luck! Haha, seriously though, this is actually brightening up a not-so-cheery holiday season (see my chicken post for details). Opening the first box was a wonderland. The second box was almost identical to the first, but that first box…magic.
Just goes to show, opening even a crummy gift brings out the inner child in us all. Or is it just me?
