Arnold von Winkelried
was a farmer who decided to brake up the Austrian front to make an opening through which the swiss could attack the pikemen of the Habsburg army (Leopold from Austria). According to the 16th century Swiss Historiography his sacrifice brought the victory of the Swiss confederacy in the Battle of Sempach in 1386
