In the darkness, under the Aurora bridge in Seattle, lives this scary dude - holding a Volkswagen bug hostage, the Fremont troll lies waiting for anyone brave enough to face him...
(Image available at RedBubble and ImageKind)
The troll was built in order to help clean up the area under the Aurora bridge, once a haven for drug abusers and other shady individuals of darkness.
I don't know who knows much about this guy - who made him, etc, but the troll has become as much of a local icon/landmark as the Space Needle and the monorail. Here are two interesting articles about it and the inexperienced sculptor who used 2 tons of ferrocrete amongst other materials. https://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/2236 and https://fremont.com/explore/sights/troll/
Unusually, I will even include my daughter in a picture here...
Here is my elder daughter, who was almost 7 at the time... just to give you some scale to the size of this sculpture.
Next time you are in Seattle, it's worth paying the troll a visit and exploring the neighborhood, there are other treasures to be found in Fremont.
