Henry "Hank" Aaron rose from impoverished beginnings in the United States' segregated South to become a baseball superstar. At that time, African Americans' role in sports was limited. During his lengthy career with the Atlanta Braves, Aaron endured rampant racial discrimination from the fans and fellow players. When it became evident he would break Babe Ruth's legendary home run record, death threats followed. Undeterred, Aaron moved forward with quiet dignity, ultimately breaking the record and securing his status as a sports legend.
Hank Aaron always adhered to his moral principals and maintained professionalism, even in the face of racist taunts. Upon retiring from the game, he joined the Atlanta braves' management team, becoming one of the first black baseball executives. Today Aaron helps underprivileged kids reach their potential through his Chasing the Dream Foundation.
