Hoy mientras iba al trabajo como de costumbre estaba esperando que fuera la hora de entrada para ingresar al local. Nos sentamos siempre en la Plaza Lourdes de Maiquetía, la plaza principal de centro del Estado La Guaira.

Esta plaza es el centro de encuentro y descansa de muchas personas. Esta rodeada de varios locales comerciales que se dedican a diferentes industrias, podemos encontrar desde ambulatorios hasta floristerías, por lo tanto siempre tiene a personas en sus bancos.

Antes que entramos en cuarentena, en las mañanas no faltaban los señores y señoras de edad avanzada que se reunian para hablar de sus vidas, los momentos que los han marcado y siempre, pero siempre de política. Tampoco faltaban esos personajes que desde hace muchos años trabajaban puliendo zapatos desde muy temprano.

Ya a eso de las 9:00 am, comenzaba el movimiento. Las líneas de los mototaxis se activaban, los buhoneros que alquilaban teléfonos y vendían cigarros armaban sus banquitos para comenzar a laborar y los locales comerciales subían día santamarías para comenzar su jornada. Luego comenzaba la locura.

Las cornetas de carros por el tráfico, los transeúntes descansando en sus bancos mientras hacían las compras o esperaban mientras hacian sus diligencias. Los parqueros rebuscandose para conseguir el pan de casos, y pare de contar.

Ya en las tardes no faltaban los que jugaban ajedrez, podríamos ver a más de 8 partidas y personas es esperando su turno, eso sí, con este en mano porque por diversión no eran las partidas. Tampoco faltaban los que jugaba dominó y cartas, muchas veces me quedaba viendo esas partidas observando la astucia que se debe tener para este tipo de juego.

Algo característico de la Plaza Lourdes es que en ambos extremos verticales tiene a una iglesia. La principal llamada San Sebastián y la otra conocida como El Cristo la cual valga la redundancia tiene un Cristo bastante grande a las afueras de la iglesia que fue traído desde Francia hace muchos años.

Esto conlleva a qué cuando es semana santa la prosesiones del nazareno y santo sepulcro se hacen alrededor de ella, por esto toma mayor significado más que todo en las personas de creencia cristiana católica. Recuerdo lo llena que se ponía la Plaza Lourdes, llena de creyentes, personas pagando promesas, comerciantes aprovechando la fe de las personas y la concentración de la multitud para ofrecer sus productos; los niños jugando y el encuentro de Guaireños por un común denominador.

I remember how full the Plaza Lourdes was, full of believers, people paying promises, merchants taking advantage of the faith of the people and the concentration of the crowd to offer their products; children playing and the meeting of Guaireños for a common denominator.

Aquí se han catalogado las plazas que "son para viejos", a más de uno le he escuchado decir eso. Pero la verdad pienso que no es correcto tener ese pensamiento. Es muy chévere sentarse a tomar algo o comer un helado sentado en una plaza rodeada de árboles en una tarde con bastante brisa y tener una conversación bastante interesante.

Ha pesar de que está un poco descuidada hoy pude darme cuenta el gran potencia que tiene esta plaza cómo lugar comercial el cual pueden aprovechar los locales aledaños, y el valor sentimental que tiene para cada habitante de la parroquia de Maiquetía.

_[Eng]Although it is a little neglected today I could realize the great power that has this plaza as a commercial place which can take advantage of the surrounding locals, and the sentimental value it has for every inhabitant of the parish of Maiquetía.

Muchas veces podemos ver lo bonito en el deterioro, es como cuando una persona pasa por un mal momento y su aura se apaga, se descuida y no se ve agradable físicamente, pero cuando se revitaliza toma vida y vuelve a ser quien era. Eso es lo que le hace falta a la Plaza Lourdes un cariñito para que vuelva a relucir cómo ese punto de encuentro y descanso del centro de Maiquetía.

_[Eng]Many times we can see the beauty in the deterioration, it is like when a person goes through a bad time and his aura is off, is neglected and does not look nice physically, but when revitalized comes alive and returns to be who he was. That is what the Plaza Lourdes needs a little TLC to make it shine again as that meeting and rest point in the center of Maiquetía.
