In my religious belief the problem has at least one answer. The struggle between good and evil has been present in the world since the beginning of time. Is it a rational answer? No, therefore it does not pretend to convince anyone.
In this field rationality is insufficient. Matters related to good and evil belong to another order of ideas much more mysterious and enigmatic. So, to take such a religious answer as satisfactory is simply a matter of faith.
What is certain is that the question of good and evil will never be a banal question that can be dispatched with simple formulas.
The problem of evil and suffering can have many explanations. Evil is a reality that never ceases to surprise many of us because it offends the human condition.
Before a fallen person in the street I see with astonishment how while someone tries to help him, another approaches to rob him and take advantage of his weakness. There is a reality there that we can interpret in different ways.
An old image from my childhood would lead me to think of the presence of two angels, one good and one bad, each one trying to convince, telling him in his ear what is the answer he should give. In the case of the helper, the good angel would triumph, and in the case of the one who stole, the bad angel would triumph.
Today I do not see things that way. In this situation I simply see two people making decisions freely, according to a scale of values that each one uses in life. Is God's hand involved there? I don't know, but I am inclined to think not.
If we look into the life of each one of these subjects we will surely find in the upbringing each one received the keys to know why he/she acts well or badly. It is mainly a matter of education. That is why I believe in the power of education as a possibility to make us better people.
There are other situations that also cause suffering and in which the presence of human evil is not seen. Such is the case of natural disasters and the ravages of disease. Here the issue is equally complicated: Why do these things happen? There will be explanations for all tastes.
I am going to turn the question around: Why, with all the suffering in the world, are we still looking for God?
As we read in many posts on the previous week's question, there are many people who do not share religious ideas, do not belong to any Church and yet feel strongly the presence of God.
They come to God not because of how troubled the world we live in may be, but because by tuning in to God they are able to feel the goodness in their hearts; they feel better people, more empathetic and with a deep desire to do good to others. For all of them God is a comforting and healing presence.
Since I opened the doors of my heart to the wonders of life, I find God in every detail. In the sunsets, in the flight of birds, in the perfection everywhere.
Thinking of God calms my spirit, fills me with love and drives away the ghost of loneliness. Fortunately, some time ago I came to the conviction that I can live peacefully assuming, without any doubt, the existence of God.

Lo cierto es que la pregunta por el bien y el mal nunca será una pregunta banal que se pueda despachar con fórmulas sencillas.
El problema de la maldad y el sufrimiento puede tener muchas explicaciones. La maldad es una realidad que no deja de sorprendernos a muchos porque ofende la condición humana.
Ante una persona caída en la calle veo con estupor cómo mientras alguien trata de ayudarla, otro se acerca para robarlo y aprovecharse de su debilidad. Allí hay una realidad que podemos interpretar de diferente forma.
Una vieja imagen de mi infancia me llevaría a pensar en la presencia de dos ángeles, uno bueno y uno malo, cada uno tratando de convencer, diciéndole al oído cuál es la respuesta que debe dar. En el caso del que presta la ayuda triunfaría el ángel bueno y en el caso del que robó triunfo el ángel malo.
Hoy no veo las cosas de ese modo. Sencillamente ante esa situación veo a dos personas tomando decisiones libremente, en función de una escala de valores con la que cada uno se maneja en la vida. ¿Está la mano de Dios metida allí? No sé, pero me inclino a pensar que no.
Si buscamos en la vida de cada uno de esos sujetos seguramente que encontraremos en la crianza que recibió cada uno las claves para saber por qué actúa bien o mal. Un asunto principalmente de educación. Por eso creo en el poder de la educación como una posibilidad de hacernos mejores personas.
Hay otras situaciones que también causan sufrimientos y en las que no se ve la presencia de la maldad humana. Tal es el caso de los desastres naturales y los estragos producidos por las enfermedades. Allí el asunto es igualmente complicado ¿Por qué ocurren esas cosas? Habrá explicaciones para todos los gustos.
Yo le voy a dar una vuelta a la pregunta. ¿Por qué con todo ese sufrimiento en el mundo seguimos buscando a Dios?
Como leímos en muchas publicaciones de la pregunta de la semana anterior, hay muchas personas que no comparten ideas religiosas, no pertenecen a ninguna Iglesia y, sin embargo, sienten fuertemente la presencia de Dios.
Se acercan a Dios no por lo problemático que pueda estar el mundo en que vivimos, sino porque al sintonizarse con Dios logran sentir la bondad en su corazón; se sienten mejores personas, más empáticos y con profundos deseos de procurar el bien a los demás. Para todos ellos Dios es una presencia reconfortante y sanadora.
Desde que le abrí las puertas de mi corazón a las maravillas de la vida encuentro a Dios en cada detalle. En las puestas de sol, en el vuelo de las aves, en la perfección reinante por todos lados.
Pensar en Dios calma mi espíritu, me llena de amor y aleja de mí el fantasma de la soledad. Afortunadamente hace tiempo llegué a la convicción de que puedo vivir tranquilamente asumiendo, sin ninguna duda, la existencia de Dios.
