Welcome to developing country fuckery.
Now, let's imagine, you're staying with your partner of different sex/gender, staying in a hotel then get detained and denied of service, what would you do?
For now, it's only a threat and many people are opposing to pass the law that would eventually criminalized unmmaried couple for checking it at a hotel room. Recently, there government is about to pass the law pertaining to individual matters. As if control over finances and social conduct aren't enough, they are now preying into our private matters. Maybe, what they did might be good according to their moral values. However, it's utterly appaling for privacy and basic human rights.
These days though, even if you're same sex, can't guarantee that you're not a couple. I know that in the country these days, more people are becoming liberal and openly use sex worker services from chats and such. If you were like me, on the indonesian side of twitter, the trending are often filled with sex workers offering their services. So, it's hard to get an information anymore without having to see bikini clad women or half boobs out offering their service whilst trying to be updated about flash flood or even earthquake. Yet the society wanting to walk 1000 steps behind.
About a few months ago, a woman was criminalized because her public sexual act and another was because she has an only fans and was making bucks from it. This is the kind of fuckery that exist in this part of the world. From what I know, as long as you don't make it public that you're sex worker and there's no snitches around you, it's fine but the problem with that woman was she went on a popular podcast and talked about it.
Now, these supposedly new law would soon about to be legalized. But just like the article from vice, the foreigners could be subject too and I can't imagine if that law is about to be passed. What would happen to Bali? it relies so much on foreign tourism and of course, it would give the country bad rep. Although again, from that article it said that the ministry is working on that to ensure nothing is impacted but still, now it's probably about money. They won't really raid five stars hotels and villas but would do to cheap hotels. The law once again eventually would favor those with money and there was never fairness from the get-go. It's only utopia.
The country is about to roll out 10 years visa for the wealthy with requirement that you have $130,000 in your bank account, Interested? maybe you don't even have to pay taxes too. I just wish one day I don't have to deal with this kind of fuckery anymore. It's totally ridiculous but it's no surprise to me that being rich could solve many problems here.
