It feels strange to spend time as a tourist in your own home town. I had my car serviced and inspected as is required by law. After that, I went on a little tour in Tampere city center and the district of Pispala that is located on a steep-sloped high ridge between to large lakes, Lake Näsijärvi and Lake Pyhäjärvi.
Tampere main library, Metso, is also designed by Reima and Raili Pietilä, the same architect couple who designed the church, community centre and the main shopping centre of Hervanta.
Here's a 360 degree panoramic view of the city from the top of Pispala observation tower.
The street at the very top of the ridge. There is a mixture of old and new houses. Some of the old houses are in rather poor shape. Other houses are brand new. All are required to have wooden sidings by zoning regulations.
Pispala used to be the home of people working at the factories by the rapid in the centre. Living on the top of a high steep-sloped ridge was tough when there was no electricity and thus no water pumps. For quite some time, the area has been quite popular. New large houses in the area cost about one million euros.
If you like breathtaking views and prefer a school being right next to your home, this house probably has the best location in the entire city. (The school is behind me about 30 metres of where I'm standing.)
Typical street in Pispala built in a steep slope.
