Today's picks are from My Herbal Deck by Michael Tierra and designed by Candice Canlin.
You can pick card 1, 2 or 3 or any combo....
Today's three card pick represents 1: past 2: present 3: future
some lovely Oregon river to break up your picks...
Card 1: XII Suspended Person Kelp genus Fucus
Ruled by Neptune, god of the sea. Growing in the oceans it has amazing health benefits. It stimulates the thyroid by using good iodine. When our thyroid does not have enough good iodine it will uptake radioactive iodine, such as the cesium and other radioactive materials that rain down on us. These heavy metals create havoc in our thyroid. Super important to have a source of good iodine such as kelp and or really good sea salt. Unfortunately, many of the oceans have heavy metals so a good source of Kelp is important to find. I use Icelandic.
Kelp is a demulcent and is known to dissolve tumors. It aids to stimulate metabolism and can remove goiters. If you picked this card today chances are you have some decisions at hand. This card represents an inner commitment to oneself. You perhaps have been hanging out, waiting on someone or something to come along to change your situation. This is a call to intend, set a goal and get to it. You might have had many challenges dealing with others or waiting on someone to complete something so you can move on with your goals. This can saying watch out for old patterns that cause you to be in indecision. A card to call You back to source and recognize your priorities in a healthier way. Recognize your patterns that hold you back and change them. This hanging out stagnation no longer serves your higher self calling.
Card 2: Knight of Swords Wild Cherry Bark Prunus serotinae
The Knight looks ahead, while falcons are swooning in the distance, a nice a peaceful sky in the background. Wild cherries hanging over his contemplative state. He stands on his tip toes leaning forward, ready to defend truth, honesty and righteousness.
Swords represent the element of air, affecting our nervous system and respiratory systems. If this card has crossed your path today, perhaps you need a bit of bravery with decisions this week. This can represent your idealistic action or mission you are on. Wild Cherry Bark is an amazing expectorant. During the winter months and those pesky chest and coughs come about, you can find wild cherry bark cough syrups that don't have sugar added. It taste great and works wonders. It is also an antispasmodic, digestant and used when acute bronchial and lung affections are present. Time to cut away those inner and outer demons and get on with the truth of it all. Make a stand for what you believe in, perhaps get active in your local community councils or stand up for animals or people that are having challenges with injustice and or need a helping warrior type energy in their corner.
Card 3: Eight of Pentacles Ginger Zingiber officianle
I pick this card more than any other card in this deck. Perhaps because I make ginger tea at least once a week and it is used in most of my evening meals as well. Pentacles rule the element Earth and worldly affairs. The suit includes herbs that effect process of nourishment, digestion, assimilation and elimination. Ginger in my opinion is a master herb/root and so many health benefits I'd be here till next listing them all..
If you choose this card, chances are you are ready and able to move into the future "you" this week. A willingness to master your craft or skill in business. The Full Moon Lunar eclipse on Sunday was a great peak to the old you. Now the energies are shifting into the supportive energies, instead of the self attacking and wasting time energies. Ginger reminds us to heat up our passions. Go prep the soil and start thinking about those trays of herbs and veggie starts already, Feb. is soon here.
A simple tea can be made from fresh ginger and even fresh turmeric root.
Add 2-4 Quarts water in big ole pot ( rule is about 1 inch of ginger per quart water)
Cut up about 2 inches of Ginger in small 1/4inch pieces.
Bring water and ginger to a boil, turn down and simmer for at least 20 minutes.
If you like to add 1 cup of dried lemon balm leaves add about 3 minutes before straining.
Strain and you have a simple tea. I like to make a big ole gallon of it and put in fridge for cold drink throughout the week.
Served hot or cold.
Ginger is known to help with tummy aches, aids in digestion (carminative). Another herb, for supporting the lung tissue, it has helped with motion sickness and spasmodic cramps. Great tea for any cold or fever. It really helps with the stagnation energies trapped in body and moving to a more balanced system. I find that if I get achy bones in the morning, a cup of ginger tea, usually makes this go away as it aids in the inflammation by flushing the kidneys out as well.
