I'm taking you along with me as I create a new card deck for myself. I will create it with an American Indian theme as I did once before. What is Lenormand? - check out my previous article.
Card 15 - BEAR
This one was fairly easy to interpret, not so easy to illustrate. The American tribes often had to deal with bears and learned to respect them. It isn't so dissimilar to how Europeans had to learn to deal with bears - so a lot of the imagery is the same.
Saying that, I did come across some differing opinions as to whether this card is more masculine or feminine. I was taught to think of Mama Bear in all her aspects. Hence...
When we think of the Bear (especially Mama Bear), we tend to think of:
- bossiness, laying down the law, fierce protector
- strength, great size, stamina, confidence
- industriousness and ingenuity (both good and bad)
- this is someone you want on your side, not opposed to you
- soft, shy and cuddly, but fierce and dangerous when crossed

For my new card, For my new card, I hit Google Images search, looking for something with CC0 (Creative Commons 0) licensing meaning that I don't always have to remember to credit someone - essential if I were to start doing paid readings with these cards.
I also had to find out which traditional playing card is associated with this card. So, here is my result:
(Base image source: Bear - at MaxPixel and artistic bear - at PublicDomainFiles)
I had a lot of trouble finding a CC0 picture with any connection to Natives other than a real person. Finally, I found this amazing bear carved in the style of the Chinook and Tlingit tribes in the Pacific Northwest. I paired it up with a picture of a black/brown bear in Canada.
I really like the result.
Note: Readings are entertainment only (legally). You are in charge of your own destiny.
