Travellers on business to Seattle can try real ales in the beer capital of the north west, without having to leave the downtown area. Seattle is known as a real ale paradise, but many of the brewpubs listed in directories are a little out of the city centre. The traveller who hasn't arrived by car, however, need not miss out on quality real ale.
Pike Brewery and Pub
This is the most central of the downtown brew pubs, at 1415 First Avenue, near to the famous Pike Place Market.
It is not the easiest place to find, as it is accessed via a small shopping arcade.
The pub manages to keep a cosier atmosphere by being divided into rooms, some of which are only opened when the customer numbers warrant the extra space.
The walls are covered with beer memorabilia.
The menu here also offers burgers and pizzas as well as a number of fish dishes in the restaurant part of the pub.
The beer selection is wide and happy hour is 4-6 Monday – Friday. Tel: 206 622 6044.
Recommended beer: Monk's Uncle – Tripel Ale.
It can be seen, therefore, that the real ale fan staying for a night or two in Seattle can find high quality beers and tasty food within walking distance of the main downtown area.
