There are so many different types of people I've met through driving the taxi! From the worker bees to the "worker" bees! I enjoy it nonetheless. I've talked to some of the people I drive around, but there are some who don't care to talk and only want to get where they are going. I understand both types. Some of us need someone to talk to; while some do not like talking about much.
I've met a great deal of those people who truly just need a shoulder to cry on. I have always had that type of personality, where people tell me of their woes even when I haven't asked. I've always been a pretty good listener who is able to adapt to my surroundings. I tend to believe my calling is helping others. Whether through conversation or just by being a friend.
These are a few of the rides that have stuck out to me since my last "taxi cab confessions" post!
The Bar Scene
I had to pick up a customer who was at one of the many local bars and got a bit behind, lucky for him he was able to drink more drinks!! I finally get to the bar and walk in. It's been a looong time since I've gone to a bar, and it was pretty interesting being sober in the bar. I look around and there's about 6 people left, closing time! The band was playing a rock tune and I walk up to a man at the bar and assumed he was whoI was to take home. He looks at me like I was his only savior in the world, lol. He asks me am I here to take him home, me being me laughed and said is that a pick up line! He laughed so hard his hat fell to the floor! I proceeded to tell him I am his taxi driver and Yes i am here to take you home to your place! It was a fun car ride for both of us I'm sure. He said I'm glad they sent me apurty one, I said oh it's just your beer goggles. I think I really made his night! Humor is my go to when my anxiety kicks in! I got him to his house and put my headlights on his door so he could help himself in, he came back to the car and gave me a $15 tip for waiting and making sure he got inside! Pretty cool if you ask me!
The Student
I live in a college town. In the heart of the college there are dorms and apartments galore. I was driving through looking for the right building, which none are labeled in a very helpful manner, butI finally find the customer after having to drive through parking lot after parking lot with no power steering, my muscles are growing more powerful by the moment! The young woman needs to get to the nearest store and back to her place asap. She finally returns and starts asking about me and what I did before I started driving the taxi. I told her I've been of work for about a year and had been posting on steemit and that i work with and the #informationfinding championship. I handed her a few images that
has created for us thatI had printed off of shutterfly that had the website information on the back. I asked her to hand out three and keep one for herself. She asked me what we do for the information finding championship, I told her right now there is a round for philosophy she said she was a student and her main studies are philosophy right now! I told her it was meant to be lol. She said she will check it out and hopefully will.
The Hospital
I had to pick up two people from the hospital at the same time, what are the odds of that! One was a young man who only had on a gown and hospital socks and a pair of jeans. It was about 40 degrees that night. I asked where his shoes and jacket were, he didn't know. I tried to give him my jacket but he wouldn't take it. I dropped him off where he asked me to, but I felt so so bad that he wasn't going inside, he waited for me to drive away before he moved one way or the other. I wanted to help, but some people do not want to feel like a charity case, I assume. I really worried about this guy for a while, I dropped the other woman off and drive back to the neighborhood where i took the man but he was no where around, i just hope he got to where he was going and is warm.
These are just a few of my experiences this far, I don't want to get into some of the others just yet. There are so many people here who could become so much more, hopefully I can help one ride at a time!!!
